Primas y escritoras irlandesas. Somerville y Martin se conocieron en 1886. Tres años después publicaron su primera novela, An Irish Cousin [Una prima irlandesa], bajo los nombres de E.OE. Somerville y Martin Ross. Coescribieron 14 libros, entre ellos un volumen de cuentos, Some Experiences of an Irish R.M. [Algunas experiencias de una irlandesa] (1899). Este volumen y sus continuaciones fueron su obra más popular. Sus obras retratan con ingenio y empatía la sociedad irlandesa de fines del s. XIX. Después de la muerte de Martin, Sommerville siguió escribiendo bajo su seudónimo común.
